Memphis Recording Service

I couldn't do an exhibition about great moments in popular music without featuring Elvis, and i thought it would be wise to start at the beginning and the moment he first entered Sun Recording Studios to cut his first discs. From that point on the face of music changed, It's true that other rock n roll artists came before him, notably the brilliant Little Richard but history will always record that Elvis was the greatest teen idol and rock and roll legend that ever lived.

There was a lot of deliberation while drawing up the painting because i found it very hard to unearth any pictures of the Sun recording studios of the time and most of the pictorial references were mainly recent tourist snaps then i came across a lovely picture of Elvis stood outside the studio with Sam Phillips and Marion Keisker, which helped me verify the neon signs, wrought iron gate and window blinds. though often my work relies on the vagaries of life, i try to get the important things right.
